HOME

Designed and built in 1959 by noted Tucson modernist Tom Gist, this home features beautiful burnt adobe masonry, walls of glass, incredible wood paneling and cabinetry, and a stunning kitchen. Situated on over an acre of land in Harold Bell Wright Estates, it is listed on the National Register for Historic Places.

Harold Bell Wright (1872-1944) was a best-selling early 20th-century writer who, like many suffering from tuberculosis, moved to Tucson in 1912. In 1950, Harold Bell Wright Estates was created from the land surrounding his home, with the streets bearing the names of his fictional characters and book titles. His 1911 best-seller The Winning of Barbara Worth, became a silent western film starring Gary Cooper in his first feature role.

Preserved and maintained by previous and current owners in immaculate condition, the house is furnished with authentic mid-century furnishings, including Heywood-Wakefield bedroom and dining room sets.

Featuring a large heated private pool, the beautifully-landscaped patio offers views of the Catalina Mountains. Even in the city, Gambel's quail, mourning doves, hummingbirds, and cottontail rabbits share the grounds. This home is a perfect base for exploring the city and the surrounding Sonoran desert.
